Envelope Printing – Color or B&W

Envelope printing does not usually get a lot of thought when businesses begin to put together their branding kit.  In fact, most businesses are looking for ways to cut costs, and envelope printing often either gets the axe or important features are cut.  One of the features that businesses often consider cutting from envelope printing is color.  This article discusses a couple of key points you should consider before your envelope printing project comes back color-free.

Impression factor
Does it really matter if you print your envelopes in color?  Absolutely!  Remember, the envelope is the first thing your customer sees before they actually open the letter.  There is a big difference between a brilliantly colored envelope and a simple black and white envelope.  The positive impression that a full color envelope can leave is worth the few cents extra you will pay.

Price difference
So how much more does it cost?  For over 3000 envelopes – which is not very many for a midsized company – the cost is usually around 10¢ an envelope.  Remember, these are full color.  Put it into perspective, the difference between 3000 full color envelopes and the same amount of black and white is often less than $100, yet the dramatic difference between color and black and white can be stunning.

Other thoughts
The real secret to envelope printing is to buy in bulk.  You want to buy more envelopes you’ll need anyway, as it is much cheaper to buy a few more than have to make a small order later.  The cost between 3000 and 4000 color envelopes is usually less than $75, and the prices get better as you buy more.
